Our organization
Teach For America's organizational structure consists of 29 regions, six summer institutes, and national teams that
support efforts across all of our regions and teams. Our work environment provides rigorous and dynamic challenges and offers
an excellent opportunity to develop professionally.
Regional teams
Our 29 regions are focused on supporting the corps in the specific geographic areas in which they operate. Their
efforts include managing the placement of corps members in schools and their orientation to the region, managing local
development efforts, and providing support to corps members so that they can achieve significant academic gains with their
students.
Regional offices are comprised of the following positions:
- Executive Director - The executive director manages the team and oversees program, development (fundraising), and local outreach to ensure that the region maximizes its impact.
- Program Director - One or more program directors drive our corps member support network, ensuring that teachers have their greatest impact on student achievement in the classroom.
- Office Manager - The director of operational support, or office manager, provides administrative support to the entire team and makes sure that the office runs smoothly.
In addition, some regions have the following positions:
- Managing Director, Individual Giving - The managing director of individual giving plays a critical role driving our donor acquisition and retention efforts with a goal towards developing individual donors into more significant funders over time.
- Managing Director, Program - The managing director of program manages and supports program directors to help corps members maximize their impact on student achievement.
- Managing Director, Regional Alumni Affairs - The managing director of regional alumni affairs works closely with regional alumni staff members to foster alumni engagement with Teach For America and build a force of alumni leaders.
- Development Director - The development director coordinates fundraising efforts including grant writing, mail campaigns, networking, and special events in the region.
- Director, Professional Development - The director of professional development ensures that corps members have the instructional and professional development resources they need to maximize their impact on student achievement.
- Assistant to the Executive Director - The assistant to the executive director serves in a right hand capacity to the executive director, coordinating his or her schedule, local events, board relations, etc.

National teams
National teams support the efforts of our existing regions within key areas of focus and strategically manage the development
of new regional sites. For more information about our national teams please see below.
- Admissions - The admissions team is responsible for all aspects of selecting and assigning the next year's corps. This includes developing criteria for selecting high-quality corps members; maintaining an efficient system for communicating with, admitting, and assigning new corps members; training over 200 selectors annually; and administering a fair, cost-effective transitional funding pool to support matriculation and assist corps members in their transition to the program.
- Alumni Affairs - The objective of the alumni affairs team is to support the network of our alumni as they assume leadership positions in all sectors and continue their efforts toward ensuring that all children have an equal chance in life. The alumni affairs team connects, informs, and inspires alumni through regular communication, alumni events, and the development of career and civic resources and opportunities.
- Finance and Administration - The mission of the finance and administration team is to ensure the financial stability and support the core operations of Teach For America. This includes budget development, the establishment and monitoring of internal controls, compliance with external financial regulations and requirements, coordination of operational support, and the administration of staff benefits.
- Growth Strategy and Development - The GSD team is responsible for focusing on where we place our corps members, how we grow our presence in sites over time, and how we work with districts and states as well as with funders to meet our growth goals. Together, the Growth Strategy and Development team will focus on these different areas of growth to get us to a $100 million funding base by 2010.
- Human Assets - The human assets team is responsible for ensuring that Teach For America has highly capable individuals on staff who are able to reach our organization's goals. This includes overseeing organization-wide hiring, staff development, and our compensation and benefits strategy.
- Marketing and Communications - The marketing and communications team seeks to further our organization's mission by deepening and expanding the understanding of Teach For America among all key audiences. The marketing and communications team's responsibilities include developing and managing the brand (identity and positioning); providing marketing and communications support for all primary functions of the organization; and creating and producing printed materials, merchandise, and all media materials.
- Program Design - The program design team creates resources that Teach For America uses to support and train new teachers. Among the key responsibilities of this team are developing and writing the institute course texts and sessions, evaluating data from regional surveys and focus groups, developing the model regional programs, providing external resources to corps members, and managing national pedagogy-related communications with corps members.
- Recruitment - The recruitment team ensures that Teach For America is able to meet its expansion goal of placing 2,000 talented and diverse corps members per year. The team accomplishes this goal by identifying and cultivating top students on college campuses across the country, building relationships with national organizations that work with our target populations, executing a marketing campaign to increase Teach For America's general visibility, and overseeing the admissions process.
- Regional Operations - The regional operations team works to ensure the effectiveness of executive directors in our 29 regions nationwide. Members of this team hire, train, and offer continued support to our executive directors as they strive to reach their regional goals for placement, program, development and management.
- Research and Public Policy - The charge of the research and public policy team is to engage Teach For America in the public discussion surrounding educational equity. The research and public policy team works with the external evaluation community to assess our social impact; foster relationships in the education, policy, and service communities; and ensure effective communications about our evaluation results and insights.
- Teacher Preparation - The mission of the teacher preparation team is to effectively train incoming teachers to ensure they are prepared to make significant academic gains with their students. The team's responsibilities include designing training sessions for corps members, writing institute curriculum, selecting and training the summer institute staff, and managing the summer institutes.
- Technology - The mission of the technology team is to build, maintain, and support Teach For America's technology resources, including computer systems, websites, databases and voice/data connectivity. Additionally, the team provides technical support to all staff, helping them to effectively use Teach For America's technology resources.
