Describe where you live. What is your neighborhood like?

I live in an apartment in Broad Ripple, which I consider one of the best neighborhoods in Indianapolis. Broad Ripple is filled with great restaurants, shops, cafes, and nightlife. The people living here are young and motivated! I live right behind a 26 mile trail, the Monon Trail, which runs through most of Indianapolis. People are always running, biking, or walking on the trail, day or night.

What do you like most about living in Indianapolis?

Living in Indianapolis is great because it is so easy to get around here. It is nice to live in a city where everything is built on a East-West-North-South grid.

What is your everyday life like?

It is busy! ! I wake up around 5:30 and get to school by 7:00. The day of teaching absolutely flies by until 2:30 when the kids head home. Then I stick around and make sure I am prepared for the next school day. When I finally get home, I exercise and make dinner before going to bed. It is very busy, but I enjoy it.

What is the nightlife/weekend-life like in Indianapolis?

There is always something going on, whether it's a concert, festival, or sporting event. There is a lot of nightlife too. We’ve had some great nights here. Everyone is very laid back.

How would you describe the Indianapolis corps culture?

Our corps is a tremendous group of people! We have been fast friends since the start of institute. It is a great group of smart, well-rounded people.

Do you find that you can live comfortably here on your teacher's salary?

Indianapolis is one of the most affordable big cities in the country. The dollar stretches far here..

What does the achievement gap look like in your school?

The achievement gap is very visible in my school. Students walk into pre-algebra and are expected to be prepared to do basic algebra. However, most of my students have trouble adding and subtracting integers. Students are sometimes passed through previous grades without demonstrating mastery of a subject.

What do you think is the greatest misconception people have about Indianapolis?

The greatest misconception is that Indianapolis is boring and not very cultural. Something is always going on, whether it's in music, sports, or the arts!
